When you think you have nothing wear, think again. Yes, you’ve heard it numerous times before….but I’m serious. How many times have you looked at your clothes or shoes and thought that you needed a refreshment of your closet. Usually that means buying new stuff of course. The same goes for your black heels.
Revitalizing Your Closet
But you don’t need to buy new stuff. It’s much more sustainable to revitalize what you have already in your closet rather than purchasing something new. Let me explain.
Now, if you don’t have a pair of black pumps, you may need to consider purchasing a pair because they are vital to a closet.
A few rules when it comes to figuring it out what to wear when you “don’t have anything to wear.”
- Combine different pieces together, not the one you normally put together to make your outfit…obvious but maybe you haven’t tried it.
- Switch up the accessories or add new ones…slightly more subtle but nevertheless worth it.
- DIY it…yes the dreaded word for some of you, or the match made in heaven for others.
Changing Your Black Heels
Whatever camp you’re from, a true fashionista can absolutely never get by without doing her own alterations. Be it small or big, a twist to something you have that isn’t satisfying your needs or living up to its fullest potential is almost always a must.
So what I am suggesting here is take those plain pair of black pumps you wear with everything and give then a new life without even touching them. Sounds a little sci-fi I know but I promise it’s far simpler than that. It won’t require more than a few minutes of your precious time and a couple of dollar bills from your wallet.
Adding Bling
Adding some shimmer and shine to your shoes is one sure way of making your black heels turn from bland to glam:
- Start by getting a bling strand between 2-3″ wide and a velcro strip.
- Wrap it around your ankle to measure how much you need.
- Give about 1-1.5″ of ease at each end to sew the velcro pieces on.
- Cut the velcro about 1-1.5″ wide and sew it to the bling strap.
- Wrap it around your ankle, slip on your black heels, and voilà!
Wrap it with a Strap
A simple strap can make your black heels look like a new sexy pair. The key is to get a set of straps that have snaps or you can get the strap and sew velcro onto it.
If you have straps with snaps then all you have to do is measure it your ankle. If not, you can cut it and sew it to measurement. If your straps don’t have snaps, you can sew velcro onto it. Mine was a little small around my ankle so I cut it in the middle and added an additional piece to expand it.
Use the same methodology as the bling.
Lacing it up
This may be the easiest option. You can get a thin long leather strap about XX long. Begin by putting it under your heel and cross both ends.
Wrap it around your heel towards the back and bring it to the front again. You can wrap it as many times as you want and at the end make a bow and tie.

DIYs are Therapeutic
Aside from giving your existing wardrobe a new spin, DIYs can offer some therapy to you to get your mind focused on something that gives you new skills and relieves stress. The whole family can benefit from creating their own DIYs, especially if you are seeking family counseling. Do it yourself activities can be a great compliment to your therapy sessions.
The Gist of it
Whether it’s bling, a strap or lace-ups that you prefer, or all 3, these DIYs are very easy to accomplish. Wearing your black heels as is does not have to be so forever. You can turn them into 4 different shoes with simple.
