Did you know that May is Mental Health Awareness Month? Just as we’re starting to realize that mental health is just as important as physical health. Your stress, anxiety, and depression can take a number on you and make it difficult for you to go about your day or build your self-confidence.
There has been talk about the importance of self-confidence. When one thinks of confidence, they imagine a man being able to court a woman with ease, or someone strutting into the job interview with a suit and tie and showing the employer why they are the best fit possible.
Importance of Self-Confidence
However, self-esteem is more than that, and there are some simple ways of achieving it. To help your self-confidence, one is to practice speaking in the mirror. You can also find all the positive traits in yourself and try to improve what you find to be negative. Working out, tweaking your appearance, and trying to be an overall better person are good ways as well.
There are many reasons why your confidence is important, and here are a few reasons why.
Improves Your Relationships
When you have great confidence and self-esteem, you can improve your relationships. When you have a poor perception of yourself, your negativity rubs off on your peers and becomes a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy. In addition, because it rubs off on others, they feel it and will want to spend less time with you since it impacts them negatively.
No one is saying you have to be the ra ra ra leader, but people are trying to salvage themselves from self-pain. Being surrounded by negativity will only naturally drag them down too.
If you think that no one likes you, your attitude may turn people away from you. Being confident with yourself allows you to improve your relationships with ease.
Reduces Your Chances of Addiction
Addiction is more than just taking a drug and wanting to take it no matter what. There are many factors that can lead to addiction. Genes play a part, the people you’re with play a part (goes back to what was mentioned above), and so does your confidence.
If you have low confidence, you may end up with addiction to alcohol or drugs. Naturally, you want to find an exit to your pain. Some people may even use alcohol as a crutch to be more confident, for example, and this causes them to end up addicted and ruin themselves.
Tackles Depression and Anxiety
This makes sense. If you’re depressed, your self-esteem isn’t high. This can be a tough cycle to break, as your lack of confidence fuels your depression, and your depression wrecks your confidence even more. The same applies to anxiety. You may feel like you’re anxious because you don’t like being around people, and this can be a parasitic relationship as well.
Helps You Do Better Financially
If you’re confident, you have a higher chance of landing the job. It doesn’t matter if you come into a job interview with the intent of having a strong work ethic. If you come across as not confident, you may not get a call back.
Plus, confidence can help you earn more money. You’re more confident to ask for that promotion or negotiate a better contract. There are many ways you can do this, and we recommend you improving your confidence so you can be happier. Money does buy happiness to a degree.
Gives You The Ability to Teach it Early on
If you have a child you should teach them the value of confidence. Kids who are raised to not be confident have a less chance of succeeding as they grow up. Meanwhile, a child who is raised to be confident can definitely improve themselves in life. You can find out more here about how to be confident as a parent towards your kids too.
The Gist of it
Self-confidence gives you the ability to achieve much, just by knowing you can. Without it, many of life’s hardships or even mundane tasks seem difficult. It reduces the chances of depression, financial difficulties, severing relationships, and addiction.
There are many ways you can improve your self-confidence, such as working out, talking yourself up and being a better person. If you’re still having problems being more confident, there is hope. Talking to a counsellor or a therapist about your confidence issues may help. If you want to seek help, online therapy may be an option. Click here for more info:

Self-Confidence is important but sometimes I wonder if it’s a which comes first. Is someone with self-confidence less likely to be depressed, or is someone without depression more likely to have self confidence?
The Wardrobe Stylist says
I believe that anyone can be affected by depression as it is just like any other illness. Having self-confidence will help fight any illness, including depression.
