6 Effortless Hacks on How to Be a Trendy Mum

July 31, 2018 · Fashion, Style tips, Womenswear

Hey mothers out there, lift your hand up if at any point in your life you’ve felt like you weren’t allowed to be trendy. Not because society dictated that, you simply felt with a babies on your arms, a busy schedule and some extra pounds made you unworthy of putting any effort into yourself.

The trememous guilt you may have felt for spending a few bucks on yourself by buying a new hip piece or treating yourself to a mani/pedi….Yeah…we’ve all been there. But we shouldn’t because investing in ourselves, is not a crime if you’re a mom.

Being a Trendy Mum

If you are very much into fashion and you want to continue looking good despite living a busy life that involves raising children of your own, there are some effortless hacks you should know about that will help you reach your goal of becoming a fashionista mum.

Invest in being trendy, but be smart about it ;).

Invest in High-Quality Items

When you buy affordable shirts, pants, and dresses, you assume that you are getting a great deal. The price seems right. Check the quality of the items before you buy. Some are great but others you literally get what you paid for.

For long lasting pieces that pass the test of time and usage, it’s ok to spend money on well made high-quality clothes. For example, Mela Purdie offers a huge selection of stylish and comfortable women’s clothing, including Tuscan shirts, Tuscan pants, retreat pants, garden dresses, and more.

While they may be higher in price, you are spending more on the quality. The price comes up the same in the end of you were to calculate how many low-quality you’ll need to get to replace one piece that lasts you years, wasting your money and your wardrobe space.

Thrift Stores Finds

Visit local thrift stores to check for high-quality items that may be gently used. You never know what you are going to find. There may be many valuable items that were worn a few times but are still in good condition. This means you can get them for a low price. You can repurpose them with some of your other garments, including shirts and accessories that you like to wear.

If you’re the creative type, you can upcyle them and give them a new meaning.

The thrift store is the perfect place to visit when you want to get brand name items at a low cost.

Accessory Selection

You can easily take an outfit to the next level by pairing it with some of the best accessories. You may want to wear a chunky necklace with a blazer and dress pants to accentuate your outfit. Give it a touch of something special, uniqueness and some pizzaz.

Other accessories include sunglasses, watches, earrings, and bracelets. Just be sure not to overdo it with accessories, especially if you’re choosing something that stands out. Weigh it agains the rest of the outfit to see how it all plays out. If it doesn’t work or you feel you’ve got to much on, start taking off some of the competing pieces then continue with removing the smaller pieces. In the end you may be left with one of 2 big pieces, or perhaps a few smaller pieces

Body Measurements

Take measurements of the different parts of your body to find out your exact size. When you have your exact measurements, you will know what to look for. You’ll also know what to avoid when you are shopping for clothes. The goal is to find clothes that fit you perfectly. They should show off your figure instead of making you feel uncomfortable.

That’s another thing to keep in mind when purchading lower end clothes. While there may be a larger size option, it does not mean you’ll have a bigger chance at finding one that fits you perfectly. With fast fashion, it’s fast production with little attention to detail and a generic template used to accommodate all customers body types.

This is something you may be able to escape when it comes to higher end clothes because they are made with more attention to details. Things such as white dress shirts, black blazers, trench coats, dress pants you want them to be well made and fit you well so spending more money on them shouldn’t make you feel bad as you will have them for a long time.

Avoid Buying Expensive Hip Items

Do not waste your money on expensive items that are currently trending, hip and all the rage. While it is wise to invest in some expensive high-quality clothing garments, trendy items may not remain fashionable long enough for you to wear them enough times.

If you are going to spend money on good clothes, choose items that are not going to go out of style, such as basic tops and skinny jeans.

Spend cheap on the trending now, as you won’t feel bad if you can’t wear it next season.

Look For The Right Sales

Always search for sales to avoid paying the full price for different items you want to add to your wardrobe. I know you already know this of course!

Too many people make the common mistake of purchasing certain types of clothing items at the wrong times. In fact, you may be able to save 50 percent of what you would normally spend on an outfit by choosing to shop online for clothes on a Monday. Now that’s a trick I just learned about. It’s sort of like gas, the prices go down after the weekend as they know it isn’t as in high demand as it was during the weekend.

The Gist of it

It is safe to say you are on your way to becoming a trendy mum by following these simple and effective hacks. You can save money, find clothes you love, and make sure those clothes look great on. Knowing what’s worth spending on and prioritizing will not make you feel bad about spending some well deserved money on yourself.

These are all great tips. I was thinking the other day that I really need to take all of my measurement and keep them on my Notepad on my phone, so I can easily refer to them… especially if I’m shopping online!

Yes it’s crazy how we ignore these things as our bodies change and size shifts. It’s handy having it when you go shopping.

The Trucker convoy is still going strong and sprea The Trucker convoy is still going strong and spreading around the world. The trump cheerleaders found themselves another excuse to occupy institutional buildings and the cities that house them. While I too am fed up of the mandates, I don’t believe their plights are justified. Yes it’s frustrating the flip flop between closures and reopening, and while they are implemented at times to limit the spread as to alleviate the strain on the healthcare system, as annoying as they are, I don’t think it’s a reason to be shouting freedom on parliament hill, harassing residents or blatantly displaying racist symbols and rhetoric. For the most part, mandates are not stopping anyone from living, going out, even travelling! They’re a temporary inconvenience to our daily lives, but in due time, will be lifted as COVID becomes more manageable. This isn’t the worlds first go around at a pandemic. Each round takes time to return things back to normal…Just go back to 1918 to see what happened…were those public health measures still in effect 5 or 10 years later?? My heart goes out to businesses and employees whose livelihoods have suffered, especially as gov assistance winds down. But like all trends, major events force humanity to readapt (think automation). Vacancy rate has been at an all time high and unemployment back to pre-pandemic levels, proof that many employees and businesses have retooled and transformed. If those convoys feel strongly about protesting, they should protest for healthcare reform. Canada is ranking as the worst in the G7 for healthcare. Our system is riddled with administrators, not enough doctors or nurses. Caps are put in residency spots and foreign trained healthcare workers waste expertise on low-skilled work as they’re deemed “not good enough” to work in the Canadian healthcare system…now that’s something worth shouting freedom for!
