Say it isn’t so…at least for those of us in the northern hemisphere. But I’ll have to spit it out and sadly say that summer is officially coming to a close in the next few weeks.
Yes it passed fast, yes you’ll have to put your pool doughnut away but you don’t have to put your cute summer dresses away. Until the weather starts becoming cold in late September, our summer wardrobe and cute summer dresses are still completely valid to wear.
One of the benefits of the summers getting warmer is that we can feel freedom in our daily dress. Until the layers need to be applied for outside and sometimes indoor use, our dress considerations are much easier.
Cute Summer Dresses to Keep it Fun
What keeps us cool? What looks light, open and inviting?
Of course, different people prefer different seasons in order to make themselves fully shine.
I’d argue that the summer months are the easiest to dress for, simply because you can get away with many more looks without temperature needing to be considered, unless you opt for layers.
Everyone know my favourite dressing season is fall (if you didn’t, now you do), but I like the ease of cute summer dresses.
However, during this late stage period of summer, you can afford even more interesting ways to keep your aesthetic ‘spiced’ up. Transitioning your cute summer dresses and lighter wardrobe is easier than you think, and totally practical!
Transition Colours Naturally
When we head into the autumnal months, the preferred colour palette for our clothing will change and will become much more interesting to transition into. Pastel like colours such as:
- beige
- browns
- light greens
…are very suitable colours to wear in the fall, and can also work together quite nicely. The trends for this past summer celebrated big, bold floral designs, and bolder colours.
This is your time to counterbalance some of the high statements with relatively muted colours now.
Just wearing these can help you feel more relaxed in your day to day life. However, you needn’t switch up your colour palette too profoundly in a matter of days.
It’s also more than acceptable for you to simply add an accessory, such as a beige headband, and then apply more as the weeks pass on and the temperature drops.
Re-stock
If you can, it might be worth selling your summer clothes on Depop, Shpock or even eBay to raise funds to completely change your summer wardrobe.
Thankfully, you’ll still be able to wear beautiful day dresses and sundresses for some time, but changing the style and patterns they house will help you seem both airy and glamorous , while also staying on theme and in touch with the season around you.
Not only this, but someone, somewhere in the world, is likely to enjoy your cute summer dresses just as much as you did, but in a more appropriate weather condition.
Instead of hoarding your clothes, why not share the love from season to season and use those funds to acquire more? Fashion should never be a locked chest of treasure; it should be a changing and constantly exciting hobby that helps you feel relevant and beautiful in your day-to-day surroundings.
Layer it up
As bloggers, that’s the first go to fashion trend . It’s a safe bet that anything summery will fit easily into this category. Take your sleeveless dress and add a cardigan on top or a shirt underneath.
You may even decide to put on boots and tights with it to give it a fall feel.
Wrap a scarf around it and grace on a vest and see how marvellous your final look comes out.
There are multiple ways of playing with your cute summer dresses and clothes to make it fit the autumn mold.
Accessorize Differently
Your accessories say a lot about how you like to trim your wear, and some accessories work better than most from season to season. Of course, certain implements are timeless, such as a gold watch – a strong look in any season – or tasteful silver jewellery.
Wearing flowers in your hair in the fall can somewhat seem out of place when all around you the flowers are dying to continue their seasonal cycle of rebirth, unless you go for some that are in darker colours.
Another option is to find your strongest accessories in the smallest of places, such as in a tasteful autumnal broach on your new beige ladies trench coat?
The summer to autumn transition not only brings with it colder temperatures, but it makes us transition from light celebratory wear to denser, comforting clothing.
Choosing a few solid staples such as the coat above or matching scarf/gloves/hat combination is a good place to begin.
Identifying what you’d like to wear now can give you the time necessary to make sure your outfits are all suitable for this, well before the temperatures start dropping.
Keep on Top of Style Guides
Fashion is always changing, if it didn’t, it would be supremely boring at all times. Keeping on top of fashion guides such as those explored on this blog will help you stay relevant, and it might even spur some of your own creativity.
Remember, fashion is never an exact science, but more of a carefully balanced art.
Never be afraid to wear what you’d love to wear in any season, like your cute summer dresses in the fall.
Don’t throw out all of your clothes between the transitioning months, as you’ll never know which item could work in one season that didn’t seem too strong in the previous.
These tips will help you stay on top form and impress everyone you meet these next couple of months.
The Gist of it
To ensure that you’re cute summer dresses aren’t tucked away until next May or June, keep them alive by wearing them until the temperatures start to drop. You can also opt to layer them.
Add different accessories and slowly transition your colour palette into more fall-ish colours to ensure a smooth transition. There are no right or wrong rules, just keep on top of trends and carefully balance your look to come out stylish no matter the season!
What’s your transition trick?
