Society is often pretty unfair to those who are overweight. While being overweight is dangerous for your health, it doesn’t mean that those who are should get the short end of the stick all the time. Some may not have a problem with it at all and even flaunt it. Take Tess Holiday for example who advocates for loving your body the way it is.
Trendy Plus Size Fashion Unavailability
A problem that curvy girls and guys complained about is finding fashionable clothes. There’s no denying that it can be much harder to find the right size for you, but finding those trendy plus size fashion clothes at a good price can also be problematic.
You also have to consider the fact that people often assume that people who are bigger aren’t necessarily trying to look good or stylish. They seem to assume that the only criteria bigger people want in clothing is that it fits! That’s not true at all.
I’ve given a few style workshops at Pennington’s and I can tell you the number of woman that walked in looking for trendy plus size clothing was big. And if they were looking for comfort, they had no problems exploring trendier options.
If you’re in this boat, take a look at following pointers.
Considering the goal
A lot of people don’t really consider the goal of the clothing that they put on every day. But when you need to put more thought into buying clothing in the first place, then your specific goals need to be more thought-out.
Ask yourself this….
- Do you just need clothing that will fit?
- Are you looking specifically for clothing that will help you look more slender?
- Do you want something that truly embraces that stereotypical “jolly” demeanour?
Don’t assume that you can’t have goals beyond simply finding something that fits. You’ve got more options thatn you think!
Casual clothing
Casual clothing isn’t something everyone puts a whole lot of thought into. Of course, if you’re reading this, then that’s probably not true for you.
Plus size casual clothing may be even more important than professional clothing since we may live in it longer. Think after work, on the weekend, when we’re out….
For the most part, most people aren’t too fussed. They don’t care if there are some wrinkles in their casual clothing, or a bit of sag to it. But when your clothes are really big, then such flaws are generally accentuated to a large degree!
To avoid putting the accent on the flaws of the clothes such as wrinkles, rips or stains, take extra care of your clothing to keep neat and tidy and the eyes focused on your overall look.
Dressed for Success
If there’s one area in which it’s often seen as incredibly difficult to dress a curvy person, it’s in the area of business. Business suits are often associated with the need to dress to impress. Again, this is something that a lot of people unfairly assume isn’t on the agenda of a curvy person. That simply isn’t true!
Don’t think that getting a business suit for a plus size person is next to impossible. In fact, with the right suit alterations, a bigger person can look just as suave as anyone else in a business suit. You may want to choose more fitted options as they tend to look better. That’s a statement that can be applied to any body type in general
Simplicity is Key
Many would suggest that those with a bigger frame should dress with simplicity. This doesn’t mean that your clothing should be boring. It simply means that you shouldn’t go overboard when it comes to the design, especially tops.
Two reasons that contribute to this. Remember that neither may apply to your goals or desires.
If you’re looking for clothing that will make you look a little thinner, simpler clothing will balance your shape and and be more proportionate. That’s one of the reasons for avoiding overly baggy clothing as they tend to make anyone look larger.
Secondly, if you want people to get noticed without overwhelm the “viewer” with your style, simplicity is key. That also goes for pretty much everyone. As bigger frames are more imposing, simple clothing works great to deliver on trendy plus size fashion.
The Gist of it
If you’re curvy and want some pointers on trendy plus size fashion, determine first what it is you’re looking for. Remember not to overlook details that may cause a disruption in your outfit such as stains, wrinkles, rips. Dressing for success can be easier than you think and always bear in mind that simplicity is key.
