While in desperation (yes even I get desperate at times when it comes to trimming down), I was searching frantically for a plan that would kick start my body into fat loss mode. I was contacting all my coach friends to get ideas and see where I should begin, a few of them suggested that I choose from these weight loss methods.
My point wasn’t to find a permanent weight loss plan, just something that would put my metabolism into overdrive.
Exercise is one thing, and I had that pretty set (and you’ll know that from 8-week program to tone up), food is another. I had been eating the same thing for nearly a year. It was great for maintenance but I wanted to trim down a little more.
It was a Thursday night, and I was studying the beneficial impact a dim supplement can have on your body, especially the potential weight loss impact it can have. Then, as I was looking through my bookmarks, I had saved something about the General Motors (GM) Diet. Puzzled on what I landed onto (and perplexed by what I saved and never looked at again until now), I began reading to see what it was all about.
What is The GM Diet Plan For Weight Loss?
The GM diet plan for weight loss is broken down into a meal schedule for just one week. It was built on the back of weekly programs that both Atkins and South Beach dieters used to achieve great success.
Its goal is to produce quick weight loss results, by eating more efficiently and in a healthy way.

How Did the GM Diet Plan For Weight Loss Start?
The GM diet plan for weight loss was designed by General Motors to make sure that each one of their employees has the information they needed to shed excessive pounds whenever they wanted to. It has since gained a large following. In comparison, another weight loss diet that achieve rapid results was Military Diet.
What Kind of Results Should You Expect?
Typically, you can lose anywhere between 10-20 pounds in 7 days. Others have put that number to 5-17 pounds. Whichever range you want to take, following this diet will make you drop. This is unless you decide to do a fitness program along with the diet as this will make you lose fat and gain muscle, staying the same weight. If you want to do a fitness program with the diet I would suggest doing something like Tennis Lessons as it is enjoyable to do as well as good for you. But to make sure the diet works, I put myself to the test.
I followed as a science experiment. Before I start anything, I am ALWAYS very sceptical of the results. So to see if this works, I put what I found to the test.
My Results
I lost 3 pounds BUT:
- I ate more than the recommended amount of food as I work out heavy;
- I carry a lot of muscle mass; and
- I am petite to begin with, which means my body will not be dropping than someone larger than me.
From experience, 3 pounds in 1 week was fantastic for me. In any normal diet (except for the Miss Victoria weigh loss plan), it would have taken anywhere from me 2-6 months to lose that much weight as my body is pretty stable and tends to drop fat much more than weight.
Important Factors to Take Note of
While this was effective in making drop weight, as I maintained my hard core training regimen, I often felt hungry and lethargic as I was lacking protein. To compensate for my lack of calorie intake, I would either increase my intake of whatever items were on the list for the day or drink up more fluids such as decaf coffee, tea (green, black, or herbal).
In addition, you will be going to the bathroom often as you will be drinking more water than you normally would.
Is it All Water Weight?
The majority of your results will be achieved through loss of water weight. You will lose some of your body fat as your calorie intake is dropping.
Can it be a Long Term Diet?
It’s ONLY meant to be for kick starting your metabolism in a short-term and not as a long-term approach to weight management. It should set you up on the right path to eating correctly. You can however repeat the process every once in a while.
What to Eat AFTER The Diet is Done?
After the GM diet plan for weight loss, focus on healthy, mineral and vitamin rich foods to replenish the necessary substances lost during the GM diet phase. You can also review these plans to help you keep the weight off, or check out this plan.
For example for me, even though I already ate clean and super healthy, I was able to tweak a few things once I completed the GM diet plan for weight loss:
- I reduced the amount oil I used while cooking my meats and vegetables;
- I reduced the amount of gluten and nuts I consumed during the week and replaced it with fruits or potatoes;
- I resorted to steaming the veggies; and
- I used the animal fat found in the meat itself and adding a little cooking spray to cook them.
To ensure you are being efficient in your weight loss, make sure you adopt an exercise plan. If you’re in need of some help, you can see if any of these plans will suit your needs.
What Should I Refrain From During the GM Diet?
That’s pretty simple:
- Sugars
- Honey
- Processed foods
- Alcohol
- Fast food
- Fried foods
- Breads
- Nuts
- Dried fruits
- Oils
10 Helpful Tips for Faster Results
- Drink lots of pure water.
- Make sure you exercise.
- Eat lots of fibre.
- Eat your food slowly and mindfully.
- Eat whole, unprocessed foods.
- Get a good night’s sleep.
- Use spices for flavour
- Some salt is ok but going for dash of unprocessed salt such as its pink Himalaya salt is even better.
- Don’t buy any prepared or fast food.
- Always try to move around.
The Gist of it
From personal experience, I would say the GM diet plan for weight loss is great to reset some of eating objectives, kickstart my eating lifestyle and help me drop a few pounds. It’s great for when you want to drop a few pounds quickly for an important event or a wedding.

Giving up sugar is so hard for me, so I’m trying to cut back gradually 🙂

Getting rid of sugar is one of the most important things to do.

My body could definitely benefit from eliminating those foods from my diet. I think I could do sugar but the bread and wine would be really hard!
