Checklist For Your Sexy Engagement Photo Shoot

August 29, 2016 · Fashion, Lifestyle, Style tips, Womenswear

If you just got engaged lately, you’re probably looking to plan your engagement photo shoot. You might be thinking of very legitimate questions such as what the theme should be, the best places to do your engagement photo shoot are, which photographer to go with, what to wear, what hairdo and makeup, etc. Here are a few handy tips to plan your sexy engagement photo shoot.

Theme for Your Engagement Photo Shoot

Have a theme for your engagement photo shoot. Have a look at wedding photographer websites, Pinterest to see what themes you prefer. Is it a classic, vintage, or colourful look?

Photographer

Look for photographer either through friends that have had their done and you like their photos, or through their online portfolios on their websites. Prices should be verified after you choose one but essentially, experience and style should trump style as these photos are forever.

Photographer for engagement photo shoot

Talk your theme over with your photographer and have inspiration photos to guide them in your vision. They might build a mood board to help conceptualize your vision.

Outfits

Have 3-5 looks picked out he night before along with your shoes and accessories. Be your own fashion blogger by choosing outfits that are cohesive with your theme. If you don’t have anything that you think would suit your look, it’s a good idea to check out places like StyleWe that offer a range of gorgeous clothes are super decent prices.

Red vintage look shorts jumpsuit

If you want something trendy, yet classic with a vintage feel, 2-piece jumpsuits or the long sweater dresses come in a range of styles that fit any theme you decide on. They both are comfortable and look good on all body types. Make sure to like their Facebook page so you can be sure not to miss out on any discounts.

White with black piping sweater dress and green purse

Make sure your outfits aren’t too busy so they don’t take away from the emotions in the photos. Ensure your accessories and shoes match your look and theme. Don’t overdo it with accessories because essentially your outfit is an element of your photos and not the focus, the emotions between you and your partner are.

If you’re feeling a little indie and want to DIY some things, check out Pop Shop America. It’s a blog all about cool indie and vintage things. You can find lots of fashion DIYs like no sew t-shirt alterations or how to make easy boho leather bracelets. But in their latest blog, get quick tips about how to style your own vintage inspired photo shoot!

Place your outfits in garment bags in the car so you have your change of outfit.

For your man, make sure his outfits are complimentary to yours. Prepare them ahead of time.

Arrive dressed in your first look, but plan your change of clothes in the car when you’re limited on time and washroom access.

Makeup & Hair

Depending on your look, your hair and makeup should follow suit. Check Pinterest or beauty bloggers for awesome looks you like that fit your theme. If you are not comfortable doing your own, either ask a friend that’s good at it or go for a professional. Either way, make sure you bring inspiration photos of your look and be ready to readjust based on your theme and outfit.

Poses

To get ideas for poses, first get inspiration from photographer portfolios online, or Pinterest. Then talk about it with your partner to see what you both are comfortable with and discuss it over with the photographer.

Props

If you need to bring in items to formulate your theme, see with your photographer how they can fit into the photos. Sometimes it’s the photographer that will suggest that certain items would be great in your photos depending on the concept.

Couple poses for engagement photo shoot

To get them, you can scour your belongings or those of friends or family. You can also buy them or rent them. It also depends on your location, they might have what you need available. The photographer can do the same on their end. Note however that they may charge extra if they need to rent it, buy it, or they may have a policy that additional items have an associated fee.

Location

Usually a photographer will help you pinpoint a location inspired of your theme as they tend to be familiar with areas around the city given the nature of their work. You’ll want to visit it to make sure it fits the vision of your engagement photo shoot.
