5 Flower Power DIY Craft Projects For Your Home

May 2, 2016 · Decor/Craft DIY, Home Décor

Spring is in the air and with it comes the irresistible urge to create some DIY craft projects to beautify your home. It’s the time for transition, growth, opportunity and new beginnings. What better to show it than with flowers? Especially that it wouldn’t require many more items than what you already have around the house.

Here are 5 DIY crafts projects that are easy, worthwhile that will add that spring sunshine to your home.

5 DIY Craft Projects

Flower Power DIY Craft Projects

#1 Spring Flower Popsicles

These spring treats are loaded with the vibrant essence of wildflowers!

Here’s what you will need:

  • 16 ounces of water
  • 1 ounce Orange Blossom Water
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • Sweetener to taste (a dropper of Stevia extract, a bit of honey, or sugar)
  • A handful of edible flower petals, such as clover, dandelion, rose, lavender, sunflower, marigold, or nasturtium
  • A popsicle mold or Dixie cups and popsicle sticks

How to:

  1. Mix the water, orange blossom water and lemon juice together.
  2. Add whatever sweetener you like, to taste.
  3. Pour this mixture into popsicle moulds and freeze for 1 hour.
  4. Remove from the freezer and gently and artfully push the flower petals into the moulds or cups with a spoon or popsicle stick.
  5. Add the sticks, and freeze for 2-3 hours more until solid.

I’ve found this amazing idea first on Jerry James Stone’s blog.

#2 A Simple, Rustic Display of Flowers

Try a basic yet elegant, shabby chic way of displaying the flowers from your garden or your local farmer’s market for your DIY craft projects using milk bottles.

Here’s what you will need:

  • Use 6-9 clear, vintage milk bottles for this project, which you can find at a thrift store, on eBay, or on Amazon.
  • Twin thread or natural raffia ribbon
  • Flowers

How to:

  1. Line up the bottles in 2 or 3 rows on your table.
  2. Tie gardener’s twine or natural raffia ribbon around the lot of them, looping it around a couple of times and tying it off.
  3. Use your spring eye for colour and design to place 2-3 stems in each bottle, creating a beautiful display of blooms.

You can also use beverage bottles as Eat Drink Chic did so beautifully in her wedding post.

#3 Graceful Rose Napkin Rings

This easy, classy trick may move you to create an entire rose-themed spread based on it this spring for your DIY craft projects. The result is a surprisingly elegant floral touch to your table.

Here’s what you will need:

  • Package of hair elastics
  • Faux roses
  • Needle and thread

How to:

Take a package of hair elastics, and simply hand-sew a pair of faux rose blooms onto each one with a couple of stitches.

You can alternately try what the Chic Site did. She used plastic shower rings, covered them with coloured ribbon and glued a silk rose onto it with an equally beautiful setting.

#4 Hanging Wall Vases

These little fairy-like vases will make the room come alive with spring.

Here’s what you will need:

  • Order some test tube vials on Amazon.com
  • Fishing Line
  • Cut some clear fishing line into 12 inch pieces.
  • Glue gun
  • Nails
  • Hammer

How to:

  1. Loop a piece of fishing line around each vial, using a hot glue gun to secure it.
  2. Hang the tiny vases from little nails in a lovely pattern on your wall.
  3. Pick some pretty stems of spring flowers to add to each one.

Rustic Wedding Décor did a similar project on her blog with glass vases that have holes on the sides to thread through a ribbon or line.

#5 Eggshell Flowerpots

If you are a gardener, here’s a cute way to start your seedlings this year and your DIY craft projects.

Here’s what you will need:

  • Clean eggshell halves
  • Seedling mix
  • Seed package

How to:

  1. Fill the eggshells with seedling mix to plant your seeds in.
  2. Plant seeds according to the directions on the package
  3. Set them in the base of an egg carton on a sunny windowsill.

Soon you will have a beautiful display of new green growth sprouting from eggshells.

How much more spring-like can you get? Gently break/peel off the shells to plant your little seedlings in the garden when the time comes. You can also paint them in beautiful colours as Livas Crafts did in her post.

The Trucker convoy is still going strong and sprea The Trucker convoy is still going strong and spreading around the world. The trump cheerleaders found themselves another excuse to occupy institutional buildings and the cities that house them. While I too am fed up of the mandates, I don’t believe their plights are justified. Yes it’s frustrating the flip flop between closures and reopening, and while they are implemented at times to limit the spread as to alleviate the strain on the healthcare system, as annoying as they are, I don’t think it’s a reason to be shouting freedom on parliament hill, harassing residents or blatantly displaying racist symbols and rhetoric. For the most part, mandates are not stopping anyone from living, going out, even travelling! They’re a temporary inconvenience to our daily lives, but in due time, will be lifted as COVID becomes more manageable. This isn’t the worlds first go around at a pandemic. Each round takes time to return things back to normal…Just go back to 1918 to see what happened…were those public health measures still in effect 5 or 10 years later?? My heart goes out to businesses and employees whose livelihoods have suffered, especially as gov assistance winds down. But like all trends, major events force humanity to readapt (think automation). Vacancy rate has been at an all time high and unemployment back to pre-pandemic levels, proof that many employees and businesses have retooled and transformed. If those convoys feel strongly about protesting, they should protest for healthcare reform. Canada is ranking as the worst in the G7 for healthcare. Our system is riddled with administrators, not enough doctors or nurses. Caps are put in residency spots and foreign trained healthcare workers waste expertise on low-skilled work as they’re deemed “not good enough” to work in the Canadian healthcare system…now that’s something worth shouting freedom for! Swipe left for more.
