Outlet Shopping for Eastern Canadians are sacred, mainly because the variety and prices in local malls aren’t always available. Thankfully, in recent years, there has been some growth in outlet shopping serving Eastern Canadians that have really amplified the buying experience.
I’ve rounded a few up that are in the area, described some of the stores they have and how much time it would take you to get there from my neck of the woods, Ottawa and Gatineau, the Canadian capital region.
Outlet Shopping Destinations by Area
Here are some of the outlet shopping malls that have spurred up across the region.
#1 – Premium Outlets Montréal
Offering 25-65% daily savings very day, the Premium Outlet Montréal does everything to delight followers of fashion by providing popular brand products by the most sought designers. The village-style, chalet-chic mall with 84 shops to scour, covers 365,500 square feet of shopping fun! The outdoor walkways are covered with rustic, cabin-feel canopies to shelter from snow and rain.
This outlet shopping mall on the outskirts of Montreal houses some of the most coveted brands:
- Max Mara
- Desigual
- Famous Footwear
- Sarah Pacini
- Polo Ralph Lauren
- Rudsak
- Lacoste
- Diesel
- Little Burgundy
- K-Way
- Bath & body Works
- La Senza
- Under Armour
- Hugo Boss
- Gucci
Now if that doesn’t get you excited then I don’t know what will.
Premium Outlets Montréal attracts visitors from all over Quebec, Ontario, the northern United States, and international tourists from Europe, Asia and Australia.
For me and those in my area, it’s quite convenient as I get all these amazing brands in just a 2 hour drive, a trip I can do in a day.
#2 – Toronto Premium Outlets
Stemming from the same company as the Premium Outlets Montréal, the Toronto Premium Outlets is an outdoor mall with 85 stores providing similar discount as its sister outlet destination. To name a few of the stores:
- Armani
- Burberry, the only outlet in Canada
- Cole Haan
- The Kooples, the only outlet in North America to have it
- Kate Spade
- Tory Burch, the only outlet in Ontario that has it
- Ted Baker
- Saks OFF5TH
- Restoration Hardware
From the nation’s capital, it’s about a 4.5 hours of driving so it’s not a destination you want to hit up over a day. Planning a couple of days is a better option.
#3 – Outlet Collection at Niagara
The Outlet Collection at Niagara is a large outlet shopping destination which has over 100 stores in a beautiful outdoor setting. Some of the stores it has:
- For the Pandora fans, you’ll be happy to know that they have Canada’s first Pandora outlet.
- Canada’s only White House Black Market outlet
- Tommy Hilfiger
- The Children’s Place
- Hugo Boss
- Banana Republic
It is a near 5.5 hours from Ottawa, so it’s quite a ways away. I’d schedule a 2 or 3 day trip there because it’s also a 10 minute dribe from Canada One Brand Name Outlets. Visiting both would be ideal.
#4 – Dixie Outlet Mall
This indoor destination has over 135 great stores, some similar to other outlet shopping malls such as:
- Guess Factory Store
- Levi’s Outlet
- Nine West Shoe Studio
- Journeys Outlet
- Puma Outlet
- It also has the only location of Canada’s Man Cave Outlet, a great place to get that hard-to-buy-for guy in your life the perfect gift. Something to keep in mind for Father’s Day.
#5 – Cookstown Outlet Mall
Cookstown Outlet Mall is an indoor shopping located north of Toronto. Some of what you’ll find:
- Banana Republic
- American Eagle Outfitters
- Danier Leather
- Fairweather
- Puma
- Royal Doulton
- Adidas
From the nation’s capital, it’s a little over 4.5 hours of driving.
#6 – Factoreries Tanger Bromont
The Factoreries Tanger Bromont combines shopping in renowned boutiques with leisure activities in a natural and country setting. Some of what you’ll find:
- Addition Elle
- Bikini Village
- Carter’s OshKosh
- Ecko
- Ella
- Empire
- Garage
- Laura
- Le Château
- Point Zero
- Sports Experts/Atmosphere
- Urban Planet
It’s a near 3 hour drive that you’d have to take from Ottawa or Gatineau.
#7 – Factoreries Saint-Sauveur
Les Factoreries Saint-Sauveur is composed of well-known outlet stores such as:
- Nike
- Reebook
- Guess
- Chlorophyle
- La Vie en Rose
- Tommy Hilfiger
With a little less than a 2 hour drive, it’s worth going on a day trip to this shopping outlet mall. However, I wouldn’t just go for the shopping as it does not have as much of a variety as its competitors. The advantage is you can visit the Saint-Sauveur village while there as it has some beautiful sites.
#8 – Ottawa Tanger Outlet Mall
Tanger Outlets in Ottawa opened back in the fall of 2014, bringing the very first shopping outlet mall to the region. It features 75 stores including:
- Michael Kors
- Calvin Klein
- Coach
- J. Crew
- Brooks Brothers Factory Store
While it surely seems extremely convenient in terms of distance, when you want to do some serious shopping, you might want to take the opportunity to get out of the city and see what’s available out there in other outlet shopping malls. Make a girls day out of it and have some fun!
#9 – Destiny USA
It’s a Destiny destination outlet shopping experience. This magical place houses not only shopping, but also entertainment, food, and outdoor activities of all kinds. You can marvel at its iconic carousel, and the rare mix of the 200 retail and outlet brands. Some of the brands it houses are:
- Apple
- Coach
- Nordstrom Rack
- Charlotte Russe
- Crocs
- DSW
- Express
While going to the US is always great, it does require a little more planning. Remember that you will be charged duty on some of your items depending on how much you’ve spent within the time you were there.
In addition, you require to have a passport to travel, and with the Canadian dollar not being as strong as it used to be, it might deter some of us away.
It’s a little over 3 hours away, which is not bad for a day trip but given the time you might spend at the border. It might not be worthwhile to go just for the day to this shopping outlet destination.
#10 – Waterloo Premium Outlets
Waterloo Premium Outlets offers 100 stores including:
- Calvin Klein
- Loft Outlet
- Nike
- Polo Ralph Lauren
- Under Armour
The drive to this shopping outlet mall is a little over 3.5 hours but again you have the duties, borders, passport, and dollar issues to settle before deciding on going.
To Summarize…
Shopping outlet malls around Ottawa have really sprung up in the last few years. If you do want to go on a shopping journey, here are some of the locations to consider spending your money in:
- Premium Outlets Montréal
- Toronto Premium Outlets
- Outlet Collection at Niagara
- Dixie Outlet Mall
- Cookstown Outlet Mall
- Factoreries Tanger Bromont
- Factoreries Saint-Sauveur
- Ottawa Tanger Outlet Mall
- Destiny USA
- Waterloo Premium Outlets
Have I missed any shopping outlet malls that are in the area?
