8 Steps to DIY Glue Brazilian Hair Extensions

Wavy Brazilian hair extensions

If you’ve ever wanted longer hair immediately, Brazilian hair extensions can do the trick, but it can also be kind of nerve racking. In this day and age doing them yourself or having a friend do them is cheaper than going to a salon and paying over a $100 to have them put in, trimmed, and coloured to match your existing hair.

Brazilian hair extensions can be used for special occasions, or to add volume to your hair, or lengthen your locks. I’ve talked about weave and clip-in remy and Brazilian hair extensions before on the blog, about how you can select the perfect one for your hair. So once you’ve read my post and figured out which ones you like best, instead of spending hours at the salon, I’m going to give you a step by step tutorial on how you can add brazilian hair extensions.

1 to 8 to Glue Brazilian Hair Extensions

How to DIY Brazilian hair extensions with glue

#1 Step – Part it Straight

  • You want to make a straight part in the hair near the nape of your neck.
  • There should be hair below that line, clip whatever hair that is above that line up so it doesn’t get mixed in the with the base hair.
  • Measure each extension to the length you want then cut it.

#2 Step – Glue it

  • Lay one of the Brazilian hair extensions on a flat surface with the strip side facing you.
  • Add a thin layer of latex-based bonding glue along the strip, and wait 5 seconds or so for the glue to become tacky.

#3 Step – Line it up

  • Line one of the hair extension about 1/4″ away from your scalp.
  • This step might be hard to do by yourself so have a mirror behind you so it can reflect on the mirror facing you.

#4 Step – Press on it

  • Press on the strip against your scalp.
  • Apply heat with a blow dryer for about 15 seconds.

# 5 Step – Continue Gluing

  • Continue gluing extensions on top of your hair part.
  • Wait a few minutes to let the glue settle before you move on.
  • Then give the extension a light tug to make sure the glue has dried up properly.

# 6 Step – Unclip Your Hair

  • Unclip your hair to start the second row about 1″ above the first one.
  • Make sure that this is a line straight across so that the extension doesn’t sit sideways on your hair.
  • Repeat step 2 to 4 until you arrive all the way up the back of your head.

#7 Step – The Sides

  • Move on to the side of your head and find the extras left from your Brazilian hair extensions.
  • Work your way up to the top of your head and make sure it all sits evenly.
  • At the top, ensure that the last extension you put in is not right at the very top of your hair part, leave enough hair there to cover the extension so it looks natural and they don’t show when you put your hair up.
  • Repeat the same process on the other side of your head.

#8 Step – Style it!

  • Trim your extensions if needed.
  • Voila! You are done putting in all your Brazilian hair extensions in 7 easy steps. Now all there is left to do is style it as desired and flaunt it!

Things to Remember

Virgin straight Brazilian hair extensions

  • Brush your hair regularly to avoid tangles using gentle strokes so you don’t pull out the glued extensions.
  • Avoid brushes with balls at the end of their bristles.
  • Extensions should be removed every 2 to 3 weeks using a bonding glue remover or an oil sheen to make it easier.
  • Don’t throw them away! You can reuse them as long as they keep their quality, which they should as Brazilian hair extensions as some of the best extensions out there.
  • Wash your hair AND the extensions every 3 days scrubbing gently and ensure to properly clean your scalp in between the wefts.
  • Avoid wadding up your hair when you wash it. Scrub your scalp instead with your fingers and work it out to the ends of your hair.

In Summary

So it’s not so hard to DIY glue Brazilian hair extensions yourself as I’ve just demonstrated to you. The important part is to ensure you leave a 1/4″ between the extension and your part so once it’s on, it looks totally natural.

It is completely true, but on the other hand, I had some difficulty because, with only 100€ is very difficult buy something with good brands 🙂 The money is not enough 🙂 I like your blog 🙂

Thanks Vera! I was able to get some good quality for the same price but it really depends on what you like. I was fortunate to find It in the exact colour of my hair. Thanks for the kind words.
