4 Big Men Fashion Essentials for Spring

Striped suit in Vogue for SS16

he air and with the onset of a new season comes exciting new styles for all, even for big men fashion. With women’s plus size fashion just starting to flourish out of the basic styles and offer trendier clothes (check out what some of my findings were for plus size women here and here), you can imagine how difficult it can be for bigger guys to find fresh new looks. But not all is sad and gloomy for big men fashion. I’ve gathered some of the top trends for big men fashion this season.

Big Men Fashion That’s ACTUALLY Wearable

I’m particularly pleased that many of the hottest and most essential styles for SS16 are actually wearable. Men often receive the short end of the fashion stick but these looks can actually be worn by regular guys and are also surprisingly kind to king size men.

Big men fashion essentials for spring

Here are a few of my favourite looks for big men fashion.

Bomber Jackets

It looks like the halcyon styles of the 1950s are back for Spring 2016. With the return of these mid-century looks comes the resurgence of the classic bomber jacket. This take on the ubiquitous leather jacket is perfect for brisk spring mornings without being too warm and is always effortlessly stylish and comfortable.

Put your layers on lock and channel your inner James Dean with this essential jacket. Bonus points if you get one in suede, another hot material for this season.

Greys and Greens

Greys and greens are both prepped to be the big colours for this season. Grey is a versatile (and forgiving) colour that can make a good suit look great. Meanwhile, greens are an effective way to add some much needed colour to your ensemble without being overly loud. Thankfully, finding a classic grey suit that fits isn’t that hard and it’d probably be worth your time to stock up on one or two.

A good suit should last you all year long and you’ll be ready for any and all upcoming occasions. Just promise you won’t wear the green suit on St. Patrick’s Day, a simple tie would suffice.

Drop Crotch Pants

The word on the street is that drop crotch trousers are a popular look for spring. Much as with the trends with women’s pants, wide-leg silhouettes have become exceptionally popular.

However, be careful to wear them in a way that looks and flows great as opposed to appearing as though you’re trying to cover something up. Typically, oversized clothes are a big “no” for larger people but when paired with a more tailored top, whether it be a jacket or a button-down shirt, this look can make you look proud and put-together.

Striped Suits

Just about everyone is familiar with the slimming affect of vertical stripes but rarely is the look so on trend. Striped suits are one of the hot looks for spring and summer but it can still be a difficult look to pull off.

The striped suit is officially in style much to the delight of Tim Burton aficionados and men of size everywhere. Try going for a classic look like a pinstriped seersucker suit to avoid anything too ostentatious or go for something for attention grabbing by channeling your inner Beetlejuice.

Summing up Big Men Fashion Essentials for SS16

So for big men that are looking for trendy looks this spring, going after the above top trends will definitely set them apart without making them look clownish:

  • Bomber jacket
  • Shades of grey and green are the season’s key colours
  • Baggy pants
  • Striped suits for the more formal events

What’s your big men fashion inspiration this spring?

Interesting read although I can’t see my hubs going for any of these trends. He has a fairly simple style all his own – solid color button up shirt, dark blue jeans, patterned sport coat. It works for him (and for me – a well styled hubby is quite a turn on lol)

I totally understand, not every man will want to venture that way. It takes some fashion seasoning before jumping on board with these trends but he can begin with some of the easier ones like adding the greys or greens. Also, for example, taking a bomber jacket that isn’T necessarily printed with bold colours. Hope this helps get him started 🙂

That was fun to see the male fashions although the big men did not look real big men. But still good to see the styles.

    Thanks, Kathleen

Unfortunately there are not that many plus size men models. I wanted to show the styles that would look good on them too.
