Coachella is fast approaching and if you live in the Cali area, it must be a very exciting time, especially that Guns n’ Roses will be back on the stage after all these years (provided they don’t cancel like they did to the Jimmy Kimmel show). I admit, I was once a fan and sang along all their songs. Coachella fashion trends are almost just as important as its lineup. So to help in that respect, I’ve compiled some of the hippest Coachella fashion trends that have thus far become festival staples. Some you can buy, others you can DIY. The choice (and amount of work or money you want to put into it) is yours.
Insider’s Knowledge
For some event goers, having insiders’ knowledge on the latest and hippest Coachella fashion trends is more exciting than finding out what the lineup looks like, and requires some level of thought and research. For those of us who will be looking from afar, unable to attend, keeping close attention to festival fashions surfacing from it will be crucial for the warm season ahead. Checking out what outfits Gigi Hadid will be wearing, or what bracelets Kendall & Kylie Jenner, or what trend Vanessa Hudgens will pull out of her sleeve (or hair), as well as what looks and accessories other celeb festival regulars will come up with. This Coachella fashion trends analysis will determine what we will be sporting over the summer months.
11 Coachella Fashion Trends to Buy or DIY??
#1 Scuffed up American Flag Tank Top over Pink Bikini + White Shorts
If you’re felling a little patriotic for your Coachella (especially with the Primaries going on), a scuffed up American Flag tank over a sexy pink bikini top and white shorts will satisfy your need.
You can totally buy this look ready made but if your patriotism is giving you extra motivation, A Texas Girl in the MidWest totally got you covered with her American Tank DIY tutorial. It will double as your Fourth of July outfit too!
#2 Piled on Bracelets (the more the merrier)
Piling on bracelets is high on the Coachella fashion trends list. This boho element is essential to completing your look, especially beaded charm and leather wrap bracelets. I love anything, and as such, you know I’ve already talked about leather wraps bracelets on the blog.
Veza Bands, a luxury bracelet brand that I came across, has these adorable beaded charm bracelets with lion heads, hearts, as well as classic wrap bracelets that would complement your Coachella-inspired outfit.
Made of luxe natural materials such as black onyx and dragon vein agate beads no two bracelets are alike. Their wrap bracelets are made of premium Italian leather that’s sure to last a lifetime and age beautifully to nicely match your boho outfit.
The quality you get at the price point you pay for these luxe bracelets, is far better than trying to cook some of your own. Plus, Veza designs charity bracelets that give back to 12 different charities, each one with its own unique colour. For $10, you can now support the charity of your choosing.
#3 Boho Booties
Unleash the Pocahontas in you and take out your boho booties that are one of the Coachella fashion trends to abide by. If buying is not in your budget, get your old booties and give them a little transformation following some creative and easy to follow tips from Pinkous.
#4 Funky Sunnies
We’ve all seen the pearl adorned Chanel sunnies that have hit the fashion runways and streets. While I find these to be a little too glam to be considered for the top Coachella fashion trends, the concept surely flies. These sunglasses will really funky up your outfit. For me, this one is one of the harder projects to do, as it requires loads of concentration and detail depending on the style you choose. If you’re feeling brave, try Free People‘s DIY tutorial.
#5 Floral Crowns (you must’ve seen this one coming)
Yes, this one is one of the most recognized Coachella fashion trends. It’s almost a must if you want to be in with the hipster crowd attending this. Can I compare it to bell bottoms and peace signs at Woodstock ’69? Maybe…So if you’re not feeling too artsy, you can buy yours here.
If you change your mind, you can always take a shot at trying your own version by trying out Kelli Murray’s excellent floral crown tutorial. I find that this one is a fairly easy project to complete and the material is not costly.
#6 Glitter Tattoos
Glitter tattoos are something I’ve entertained before on the blog. It’s a fun trend as it alleviates the need to pile on accessories especially when it’s really warm outside.
If you rather buy the tattoos, check out where you can get them pre-made here. If you can’t find the shape you like, why not DIY it?? Here’s a popular tutorial I found from Stampin’ Dolce.
#6 Tribal Necklaces
I must say I love tribal necklaces for many reasons. One they look so chic with just an LBD. Two, they can be complemented with simpler necklaces. And three, they are perfect for festival fashion. While I am fond of the trend, I don’t recommend spending hours on end trying to DIY it. Investing in one is probably your safest bet.
#8 Crochet Tops (could not put this one on there)
Whether you like them in bandeau, crop top, or full top, crochet tops have been a huge hit the last few summers. They are a vital part of the Coachella fashion trends. They can be paired with shorts, pants, skirts and look sensational.
While they are versatile, I would not attempt at trying to DIY this. If you do know how to, you can try this video tutorial from Krystal Everdeen.
#9 Distressed Jeans Shorts
Distressed jeans shorts have been around forever. They’re probably the easiest thing you can make yourself given the low level of required tools and material. Follow Swell Mayde’s tutorial to customize your denim shorts. If you’re not feeling up to the task, you can always buy them.
#10 Fringe Top (or fringe anything)
I’m almost at the end of my Coachella fashion trends list. Fringe tops are really reminiscent of the 60’s, hippies, and that whole culture. It screams peace and love and happiness (just look at Alessandra Ambrosio’s photo below). But if you grew up in the 80’s, it might take a different turn, one of metal, rock n’ roll and Madonna fashion. Take your pick but this is am important part of the Coachella fashion trends list.
Might look hard to DIY, but I found Pretty Design’s tutorial simplifies the process. If your sewing skills are not up to snuff, check out these styles.
#11 Abs (I know you can’t buy this one but you can surely DIY it!)
So this one might strike you as a little odd, but have you seen all the street style (or festival shots I should say) that have been posted online?
Celebs aside, is it all Cali girls that have somewhat of a six pack or are my eyes in need of glasses? I thought I’d put it out there in case this is one of your goals for the coming warmer months. If you’re looking for some great tips, here are some fitness model tips for your to follow.
