Adding Bold Colours to the Home With Accents & Window Shutters

February 22, 2016 · Home Décor, Lifestyle

Every home needs its own style and personality. Sometimes, rooms can become a little tired and in need of a new look. There is no better way to breathe new life into a home than by adding some bold prints. Adding new colours and patterns to a home will help to create a brand new style and help to bring dull, tired rooms to life.

Add bold colours & prints to your home

Bold Wallpaper

There are many different types of prints to choose from, from bold geometric prints for those wishing to create a stylish, contemporary look to bold, retro-style wallpaper for those wanting to go for something a little more glam. There are also neutral prints that are ideal for those wishing to opt for something that is subtle but will still help to completely transform the look of their rooms.

Baroque black and white bold wallpaper

Different patterns will work better with different types of rooms, so it helps to explore what colours and styles are available to help gain some inspiration and find out what will best complement the décor of each room. Bold prints do not necessarily have to cover an entire room. They can be used to create a colourful, eye-catching feature wall in areas such as bedrooms and dining areas. Bold prints work especially well in living rooms, as they help to accentuate certain areas of the room, such as the fireplace.

Bold Accessories

Bold prints are not just available as wallpaper. There are many different fabrics and other accessories that are available as bold prints, such as rugs and furniture coverings. Adding bold accessories to the home can really bring a little personality to rooms and help create a brand new look. Bold print rugs are particularly ideal for brightening up areas such as the bedroom or living room. Simple, brightly-coloured accessories such as pillows and throws can help to complement rooms and create a bold, quirky look.

Take this look from Versace Home where they brightened up the black on black room with punchy cushions and ottomans in their signature print that’s vivid with colour. This is a prime example where colour doesn’t have to be overwhelming to be part of your home decor story board.

Bold Art

Adding some bold art can also really help to transform the look of a home. Bold art can help to add a splash of colour to rooms with neutral colour schemes and is a perfect solution for those looking for a budget-friendly way to liven up their home. There are many different types of bold art available, from brightly coloured patterns that are perfect for making a statement to vintage style black and white prints for those looking for something a little subtler.

Add Colours With Window Shutters

Shutters are a great addition to the home, as they provide natural light, which can help to create bright, spacious and airy rooms. There are many different shutter ranges, including brightly coloured window shutters for those wishing to select something that complements the rest of their bold colour scheme. Brightly coloured window shutters are perfect for creating a vibrant new look in areas such as the kitchen, bedroom or living room.

Some great ideas to add bold colors to your home decor. I love the idea of the bold colored shutters, and I think some colorful throws would be great too (since I’m not brave enough to go for bold wallpaper yet !

I love these ideas! I really want to add a pop of colour with an accent wall but I rent my home and I’m not allowed to wallpaper anything. I wonder if you’ve had any experience with temporary wallpapers or decals? Do you happen to know if they damage the paint underneath when you take them off?

Totally. I actually have decals on my walls in my kids bedroom and in the living room. I am planning to post about it as well as where to buy it because it changes the whole room without any damages to your wall unless all you have is primer (at that point it might chip the primer slightly but easily fixable). I’ll keep you posted!
