If you’re anything like me, immediately when you see a cool accessory or clothing item on celebs or on a fashionista, the first thing that pops in your mind is how can I make this??
Often, the off-the-shelf the version is out of reach in terms of price point, or not exactly how you’d like it to be.
So what better than to make it! Fortunately, with the rise of fashion DIY blogs out there, it’S easy to find one that will help you complete your project.
Fashion DIY Blogs to Refer to
I’ve rounded up a few fashion DIY blogs for your to refer to when the need arises. With the coming of the fall, you surely are going to need some handy in your reading list.
1 – Trash to Couture
Turn your pillow cases, old mens shirts or table cloths into funky summer dresses, zippered skirts, or accessorized shirts. One of the Fashion DIY blogs that offers great tips is Trash to Couture. Turn your plain Jane clothes into your runway ready pieces. The Trash to Couture gal learned to sew in middle school and immediately started making her own designs. She started the fashion DIY blog to share her sewing projects with a glimpse of the before and after process. She also includes one-of-a-kind DIY sewing tutorials. She hopes to inspire and share ideas to provide a less wasteful approach to the mass-produced fashion mainstream.
2- High on DIY
High on DIY is run by Rinchen Dé. She’s a 20 something with an endless love for all things creative. From the list of fashion DIY blogs, in this one, you can find fun and unique ideas that you may not have thought of before. Whether it’s fashion’s latest trends or something else, High on DIY recreates it through by adding your own touch to reveal your own personal style. DIY inspirations draw from street style, runway, editorials, personal style blogs, travel, shopping and films.
3 – Fashion Diva Design
Fashion Diva Design gives you amazing fashion and home organisation hacks that are truly life-changing…as derived from one of their post titles. Find out how you can turn your shoes into Dorothy red, metal capped toe, or add sparks to your heels. They compile projects from various DIY fashion blogs onto theirs.
4 – Modge Podge Rocks
At Modge Podge Rocks, you’ll learn how to create accessories like colour-blocked bangles, personalised glass pendants, and themed jewellery among other things. Amy’s, the author, favourite thing about this blog is that she gets to bring lots of ideas and inspiration drawn from her and her team as well as other Fashion DIY blogs together in one place.
5 – P.S. I Made This
P.S. I Made This’ moto is I see it, I like it, I make it. You might have already heard of this site, being one of the more popular fashion DIY blogs. As with some other blogs, it displays every post like an online store so you can choose which item you’d like to make. Pick from pearled sunglasses, watermelon tote, or a sequin sun hat. With a mood board as an interlude to each DIY project, steps are described with images and simple instructions making it easy to follow.
6 – Honestly WTF
From vintage appeal accessories to Miu Miu inspired footwear, Honestly WTF has a thousand and one, if not more ideas for you to get DYI’ing on. Shown in big, bold pics, following the steps to your DIY success is made easy!
7 – A Beautiful Mess
If you’ve been overdosing on fashion DIY blogs, then I’m sure you’ve already heard of this one. A Beautiful Mess, owned and operated by Elsie Larson and Emma Chapman, sisters in blood and business. It’s a women’s lifestyle blog that focuses on creating a homemade lifestyle. They share home decor projects, recipes, and DIY fashion crafts.
The DIY section is neatly split into categories, making it easy for you to refer to the section you want to venture in.
Where to Get the Trims?
As Elsie and Emma said it on their blog “Cheers to doin’-it-yourself, always learning, trying, failing, dreaming big, enjoying the small stuff, and above all else…embracing imperfection. Life is better when it’s a little bit messy.”
But now that you’ve got the “How to” from the fashion DIY blogs, what about the “Where from?”
In every fashion hub, there are a few places to snag your needs from…but for many of us, that’s not the case. There is hope. Sites like Josy Rose make it really easy for you to get all your DIY needs all in one place.
From beads, to glitter, to chains, to lace, to studs, shop what you want in any colour and dive into your DIY project!
