6 DIY Thanksgiving Ideas to Make You a Superstar

Thanksgiving in Canada is not at the same time in America. That doesn’t mean decor changes from boarder to border. It’s just that the harvest time is different. Whether you are hosting or being hosted, Thanksgiving ideas for decorating your place are important to highlight this time of gratefulness.

DIY Thanksgiving Ideas

#1 – Centrepiece

Start with the area that’s the main focal point of any major holiday. That’s right, the table. What better way to highlight than with a very original DIY pumpkin vase? I couldn’t think of a better idea. Thanks to a Pumpkin & a Princess, her tutorial makes it super simple to recreate it.

Consider adding a jute runner under your pumpkin vase as it will really highlight your centrepiece and invoke more of the Thanksgiving theme. You can find some for real cheap at ArtoFabric.

To glamourize your chairs, add a burlap chair sash. It’s a simple Thanksgiving idea that will impress your guests. ArtoFabric will sell you ten 7″ wide and 108″ long each for $20.50. Not bad of a deal! To accentuate it, you can add some feathers, flowers and mini pumpkins.

#2 – On the Mantle, Consoles, Shelves

What about the mantle, console, or lonely shelves? Many things can be apposed on the mantle, including this gorgeous glitter DIY pumpkin. Sure you can grab some at the Dollar Store, but they do not look as authentic and trendy as the ones Two Sisters Crafting made. Follow their tutorial to glitter-ize your fireplace.

#3 – Porch

If you never knew what to do with your corks from all that wine you drank? Get creative with some Thanksgiving ideas and make some decorative wine cork pumpkins with them. It would look good anywhere in the house but I particularly like it on the porch. It’s very inviting and festive. My Gourmet Kitchen created a quick and dirty tutorial for you to follow.

#4 – Windows

Sometimes that window ledges are overlooked and forgotten. Your bright Thanksgiving ideas don’t quite make it there. They are not decorated and left undressed. Sugar Bee gave me great Thanksgiving ideas about how I can dress my windows; colourful mason jars with tea light candles.

#5 – Door

A wreath is an obvious choice to decorate your door. The Crafty Blog Stalker came up with a lovely tutorial for a fabric wreath that will accentuate your door.

#6 – The Wall

None of the Thanksgiving ideas will be easier, faster, and thoughtful than a wall banner telling people how much you appreciate them. With these printables for The Tom Kat Studios, you can have your wall art in no time.
